AIGA Studio Tour 2013

Posted by Malia on October 16, 2013

When we moved into our new office back in April, we were more than excited. Alfred Williams and Gensler definitely crafted our dream space. Our happiness here has only grown, and bringing friends, clients, family members, and freelancers to our stomping ground is now a huge point of pride. But, until last month, we were still looking for a way to share the space with the public.

So, we eagerly jumped on the opportunity to open our doors for the 2013 AIGA Studio Tour. We settled on a “Super Ordinary Haircuts” theme, and tried to create an experience that had a fun, vintage barbershop feel to it. For those of you who are not familiar with our brand, Super Ordinary Haircuts is our way of saying we are just a group of fun, normal, down-to-earth people. The tagline was developed when we created our culture book a few years ago (ask us for a copy if you don’t already have one!).

Before folks started arriving, we killed some time by watching footage of kittens we shot that morning. Cutest video shoot we’ve ever had.

Looking at footage from a shoot earlier in the day. Kittens!

To give visitors a true Myriad experience, we thought it would be best to share some of our favorite things—i.e., cool cameras, good booze, and tasty food. We brought in the guys from Sweet Water Ice, who set up their cart and passed out the most amazing Italian Ice I have ever had. The owners, Mike and Rich, were the coolest guys to work with.

Raleigh Cake Pops created hundreds of bite-sized pops for us, all rocking unique orange haircuts. These little guys were SO good!

A stylist gave out Super Ordinary Hairdos all night. Once people got a new ‘do, we sent them into the production studio to play with our new FS700. Kent shot slow-mo portraits of everyone, which was basically an excuse for us to dump candy on strangers and slap Spike in the face. Take a look at the video on the bottom of the page to see some of the other shenanigans we got into.

We also concocted some refreshing cucumber-infused gin and tonics, infusing the gin for 7 days leading up to the event (which was totally worth it). We had old-school sodas on hand for the more responsible folks who came through that evening.

We had a blast that night and are so appreciative of everyone who came through. And, we are PUMPED that our office won Outstanding Theme, Best Experience, and Coolest Office Space! A clean sweep! We are so humbled and want to thank you all so much for voting. Also, a big thank you to the Raleigh AIGA for being so great to work with. Everything came together wonderfully, and we had a truly awesome time.

Needless to say, we can’t wait until next year 🙂
